The Joint Biostatistics Center is charged  to develop a rigorous research, teaching, and collaborative program in biostatistics, and provide leadership in study designs and data analysis for the National Translational Medicine Center and many research and clinical programs at SJTU. Itwill have presence both on the SJTU Minhang campus, as well as the Medical Center campus in Xuhui District. It is also reaching out to other universities, institutes, and industry for collaborations.

Research: The Joint Biostatistics Center will recruit world class scientists with expertise in biostatistics and translational medicine, such as clinical trials, statistical genomics, epidemiology, image analysis, outcome research, causal inference, computational biology, and medical informatics.

Teaching:The Joint Biostatistics Center help develop a rigorous curriculum in biostatistics and train both doctoral and master students to be future leaders in advancing translational and precision medicine in China and the world. Each student recruited through the Joint Biostatistics Center will be co-mentored byboth Yale and SJTU faculty. The Joint Biostatistics Center will also offer workshops and short courses on study design, data analysis, protocol preparation, regulatory sciences and other critical topics to a broad audience in medical research.

Collaborations:The Joint Biostatistics Center will provide statistical consultations and collaborations on translational medicine projects through center recruited staff with expertise in statistics, informatics, and data management.

Exchanges between SJTU and Yale:The Joint Biostatistics Center will build long-term collaborations between researchers from SJTU and Yaleconducting research in cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic diseases and other diseases of significant public health importance.
